Art Residency
I was invited to Mesa Verde National Park
to be their “Artist in Residence” for the first two weeks of
May. They allowed me to explore
800-year-old cliff dwellings on Wetherill Mesa on
my own, and to enter Cliff
Palace after hours in
order to paint without the distraction of hourly tours. As Artist in Residence, I lived on
Chapin Mesa in a historic Hogan made of native stone and whole tree
trunks. During my two weeks at Mesa Verde I produced
a number of studies. One of
these will become a full-sized painting, which I will donate to Mesa Verde National Park
to be part of their collection.

Escalante Plein
Air (Painter’s Holiday)
After I hung the show at the
Wine Store in April, I realized that I have plenty of large paintings for
my 2008 exhibits. That left me free
to go out and practice plein air (outdoor)
painting in and around Escalante.
Here are some of the results.
The studies are mostly 11x14 because I had a windfall of masonite panels to use.
